No doubt you've noticed by now that it's common practice on the Internet for websites to offer a free product or service in the hopes of garnering your business for a fee for something else. We thought we would take the time to explain ConsumerInfo.com's offer of a free credit report so you will know what to expect and what to to secure your free report.

This company hopes that in offering the free report that you will sign up for their 'CreditCheck Monitoring Service' for eight bucks per year. If you're not interested in the service, just ignore.

The 'game' is that this company requires that you submit your credit card information to them. (It must be a valid card.) At the end of thirty days, they hope to charge your card for $80 to begin your one-year subscription to their 'Monitoring Service'.

  • They will not charge your credit card during the 30-day free trial period.
  • You can cancel your 'membership' before the trial period expires and not be charged.
  • If you forget and your card is charged, you can cancel after the 30-day trial period and receive a pro-rated refund of the annual membership fee.
Obviously they are offering the free report in hopes of garnering new clients for their reporting service. Now that you know what the game is, you can...

Or not.
